A 19-year-old Belleville man was charged Saturday with one count of armed robbery, a Class X felony.
Brandon D. Goff of 309 Ring of Kerry allegedly robbed a woman sitting in her vehicle on a parking lot Thursday night on South High at East Washington streets, according to police.
Belleville Police Detective Mark W. Heffernan said the victim told police a man approached the driver's door, opened it, pointed a handgun at her and demanded her purse. The suspect then fled the area in a vehicle.
Police located a vehicle matching the description near West Boulevard and Fair Oaks. As officers approached the vehicle, the two occupants fled on foot.
Heffernan said detectives obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and located evidence inside. Goff was arrested Friday afternoon without incident.
Goff remains in custody at the Belleville Police Department and is being held in lieu of $500,000. If convicted, Goff faces six to 30 years in prison.
Belleville police continue to investigate other people who may have been involved in this case. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Belleville police at 234-1218.
