A 44-year-old Alton man was charged Tuesday with home invasion in connection with an attack on a female acquaintance in her home last week.
Steven L. Roswell is accused of forcing his way into the home about 11:30 p.m. on March 11.
The victim in the 2800 block of Gerson Avenue in Godfrey told Madison County Sheriff's Office deputies she was choked and battered by a man with a knife.
The victim escaped and fled into a neighbor's home but the suspect followed her there. After he was confronted by a man at the neighbor's house, the suspect fled in a pickup truck. Deputies pursued the suspect across the Clark Bridge into Missouri, where the pursuit was terminated.
On March 12, the suspect vehicle was involved in a crash on Highway 367 in Missouri, Capt. T. Mike Dixon said. Roswell was transported to a St. Louis area hospital, where he was treated for serious, but not life threatening injuries sustained in the crash.
Roswell was released from the hospital Tuesday and returned to Illinois, where he was transported to the Madison County Jail. He was being held in lieu of $200,000 bail.
