I am compelled to write this letter about Smithton School District 130. I have attended several meetings about this issue of building a new junior high school.
The Smithton School Board members should be praised, honored and thanked that they had the foresight in 2006 to purchase 38 acres of land available for this purpose. The land was totally paid for in 2009. If the district had to purchase this land today, it would cost millions of dollars.
Smithton needs this junior high school to continue educating our children instead of buying more modular classrooms. Sure, taxes will increase, but not much more than a six-pack of beer or a pack of cigarettes a week.
I hope and pray the people in the district get on the bandwagon and vote "yes" on April 9.
