In 2009, I knew it was tough economic times. So I was against raising taxes. I voted against the Good Government Party's property tax hike, sales tax hike and wheel tax. During the first two years of my term, I was the only true independent serving on the Belleville City Council. Alderman Phil Elmore voted for everything like the GGP's new drummer boy, including all their tax hikes.

In December, Alderman Joe Hayden and I voted for the people's best interest, and we voted for the cheapest electricity rate. However, Elmore voted in favor of having a higher electricity rate for the residents and business owners in Belleville.
