Recap: Los Angeles vs. Dallas

Published: March 22, 2013

Kari Lehtonen turned aside 40 shots for his first shutout of the year as the Dallas Stars took a 2-0 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.

Jaromir Jagr and Ray Whitney each had a goal for the Stars, who had lost five of six coming into the game.

"If you can weather the storm the tide will change," said Dallas head coach Glen Gulutzan. "Your goalie saves you and Kari kept us in it. Jagr and Whitney are stingers and they can get you."

Jonathan Quick gave up two goals on 21 shots for the Kings, who had a three- game winning streak stopped.

"Lehtonen was on his game but it's not an excuse," said Los Angeles forward Anze Kopitar. "We passed up opportunities and it's a bit frustrating."

It was a scoreless game until the 6:34 mark of the third period. Jamie Benn brought the puck into the Los Angeles end through the middle and left it for Jagr, who skated over to the left and threw a backhand on net that was going wide, but it hit off the leg of Drew Doughty and went in.

The Stars got themselves an insurance goal on a 3-on-1 rush that saw Loui Eriksson pass from the right wing to the center where Alex Goligoski fed it to his left and Whitney one-timed it home.

Lehtonen finished off his shutout by stopping all 10 shots he saw in the final period.
