A man was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital following a single-vehicle accident on I-255 near Columbia Friday morning, according to Illinois State Police.
Police said the driver lost control of his pickup truck near the Columbia exit on I-255 at 4:15 a.m. Friday, flipping the vehicle and trapping the driver inside.
The driver, whose name was not released, was extracted by Columbia and Dupo fire departments and airlifted by ARCH Air Medical Services. The extent of the driver's injuries were unknown.
Police said it's unclear what caused the crash, and it's unknown if the driver was wearing his seatbelt.
The interstate was blocked by emergency vehicles while the crash was investigated but has reopened to traffic.
