Job: alderman, city of edwardsville
Facebook: Barb Stamer for Mayor
Education: Attended Edwardsville Public Schools and SIUE
Previous offices: Alderman, City of Edwardsville since 1997
Qualifications: I have spent the last 16 years solely dedicated to serving Edwardsville both as an Alderman and through my volunteer efforts. For nine years, I have been entrusted as finance chairman, never taking this trust for granted. We have managed nine consecutive balanced budgets and lowered our tax levy while significantly improving neighborhoods, parks and services. I have the city government experience, dedication and knowledge to continue building on the progress we have made since my opponent left the council 10 years ago. Having had the honor of serving as mayor pro tem I am uniquely positioned to immediately assume the daily duties and responsibilities of mayor. I have a deep sense of pride in our city's rich history and its future. My parents instilled in me the importance of integrity and respect for others. I believe every resident makes this community great and deserves the best I have to offer.
Top issues: As mayor, I will continue to work diligently keeping Edwardsville fiscally sound while ensuring our safety, security, services and mutual prosperity. My priorities: Keep police, fire and emergency services up-to-date with equipment, facilities, training and adequate staffing. Expand water and sewer treatment facilities to serve our growing population while maintaining and repairing the distribution systems in our older neighborhoods. Continue revitalizing downtown Edwardsville while diversifying and expanding our local economy. Implement our rental registry program to stabilize neighborhoods, protect homeowners and their property values. Continue the progress of the city's street and sidewalk program that has resulted in nearly nine miles of new sidewalks in nine years. As mayor, I will stay committed to improving the quality of life for all of the residents of Edwardsville and keeping our city a great place to live, work and raise a family.
Job: self-employed family dentist at patton dental
Facebook: Hal Patton for Mayor of Edwardsville
Education: Edwardsville H.S. '86, B.S Biology- Centenary College of Louisiana '90, Dr. of Dental Surgery - University of Minnesota '94
Previous offices: Edwardsville City Council - 6 years, Madison County Board - 8 years, Goshen Rotary president
Qualifications: A key consideration for this election is who will be able to best replace the 20 years of exemplarily leadership by Gary Niebur. I believe my 18 years of business ownership, my passion for community service - six years on the City Council and eight years on the County Board, serving as president of the Goshen Rotary and forming JoplinSpirit, are examples of my ability to recognize a problem, discuss the possible solutions and implement a cost effective plan. After witnessing consecutive days of traffic jams and collisions on Center Grove Road, I worked with local officials, our Glen Carbon neighbors, Madison County and IDOT to support the Governor's Parkway Project. I participated in the early planning stages, worked with residents during the construction, and guided tree replacement on the west end of the project. As a result, we have safer access to Edwardsville High School, fewer accidents and improved west-east traffic flow. As chairman of the Madison County Park and Recreation Commission, I crafted the Trail-head Park Grant to improve parks and bike trail access.
Top issues: It's my belief that the most critical issues facing the City of Edwardsville are: Maintaining the character and charm of our neighborhoods - Edwardsville is a city of unique neighborhoods, and I will work to preserve their charm and character through road, sidewalk and other infrastructure improvements. Modernizing our public safety facilities - Edwardsville is a safe place to live, work, raise a family, and go to school. We must continue to invest in our police, fire and emergency services to ensure the safety of our residents and guests. A new fire and ambulance facility will be needed to cover our western growth. Vitalizing Downtown Edwardsville - I want to make downtown a great place to own a business and a fun place to eat and shop. I will work with our businesses and downtown property owners to develop a business environment in which they can succeed. I will work to improve existing parks, seek grant funds to add recreational space, develop more active use sport fields, and pursue the construction of a public pool.
Edwardsville Ward 6 Alderman
Job: U.S. Air Force retired, U.S. Postal Service retired
Facebook: Larry Miller for Alderman, Ward 6
Education: AAS, digital equipment technology
Previous offices: None
Qualifications: I have a desire to serve the people of the City of Edwardsville. On retirement from the Air Force, I chose Edwardsville to be my home because of the many opportunities in the area. Beginning in February of 2012, I have attended as many committee and city council meetings as my schedule permitted, to get a feel for and understanding of the the way the city functions and operates. In over 21 years of military service, I have worked with people from all over the United States. Contact with this diverse cross section of America, gives me a wide perspective of opinions and viewpoints that aid me in my judgement in everyday life. In the Postal Service, I worked as an electronic technician and in management, positions which also gave me an ability to interface with people in many different disciplines.
Top issues: I enter into this election race with no set agenda. In virtually every election race there are financial issues, such as revenues, expenditures and budgets that need to be considered. Community growth and quality of life for the residents of the community are also always a concern. My approach to any of these issues would be a common sense approach, the one that makes the most sense in the views of the residents, that is also beneficial to the city.
Edwardsville Ward 6 Alderman
Phone: 618-656 6048
Education: Bachelor's and master's degrees
Previous offices: None
Qualifications: I am very familiar with the city, its growth and the issues it faces. I have lived and worked in Edwardsville (off and on) for over 37 years and at our current address in Ward 6 for 29 years. In my position as assistant superintendent for Edwardsville Schools I worked closely with almost every department and department head and collaborated on numerous projects involving the city and District 7. Since retirement I have remained active in the community through volunteer work including serving on the Watershed Board, the YMCA Board and the City Plan Commission as well as chairing the Land Use Committee. I am active in our local homeowners association where I chair committees and serve as an officer. I have proven myself and a leader and a person capable of helping groups reach collaborative solutions. I have a strong work ethic. Most of all I sincerely care about Edwardsville and its residents and want to support its continuing growth and prosperity.
Top issues: There are not any huge, divisive issues in the race for Ward 6 Alderman. As in most local elections, residents are concerned about infrastructure issues. Edwardsville continues to grow and the development brings special problems in the provision of services and how the growth is managed. I believe these are the most pressing problems for our city and since Ward 6 is one of the largest and fasting growing areas in our city it is at the heart of how these issues are managed.
