The state is expanding a program that helps create affordable housing to Belleville buyers of vacant homes.
The program, called Illinois Building Blocks, will now include Belleville and nine other municipalities that may qualify for down payment and closing cost assistance, according to an announcement from Gov. Pat Quinn.
What does it do?
The program encourages the reuse of vacant single-family properties and enables more working families to access currently low housing prices by making home ownership safe and affordable.
How does it work?
Applicants may qualify for $10,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance. Buyers may qualify for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, currently at 4 percent interest rate, and $10,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance.
Who is eligible?
First-time and non-first-time low- to moderate-income families in 15 municipalities across the state, including Belleville, are eligible. Buyers must contribute 1 percent or $1,000 of the purchase price, whichever is greater, purchase a one- or two-unit property within the eligible communities, and live in property as primary residence.
