St. Louis Cardinals RHP Jason Motte injured elbow

Posted by Scott Wuerz on March 23, 2013

St. Louis Cardinals closer Jason Motte has a strained elbow and is unlikely to be ready for the start of the season.

The team is soft pedaling the situation. But at the very least it likely to have significant roster implications.

It would seem Trevor Rosenthal will be shuffled back to the eighth inning with Mitch Boggs getting a chance to be the closer. Joe Kelly, experienced in the MLB bullpen seems likely to become the long man with Shelby Miller wining the fifth slot in the rotation. Fernando Salas would likely get the extra roster spot.
