Lanes will be reduced in the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 255 between Collinsville Road and Horseshoe Lake Road beginning on Monday.
Two of the three lanes will be closed at all times to complete the necessary pavement repairs, resurfacing and bridge work. The work is expected to be complete by late fall.
Significant delays are expected, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. Motorists are encouraged to develop and utilize alternate routes during this period.
Also, IDOT announced daytime ramp closures will be encountered on the ramp from northbound Illinois 3 to eastbound Interstate 55-70-64 east of the Poplar Street Bridge.
Weather permitting, the ramp closures will take place on Monday and Tuesday. The ramp will be closed to traffic at 9 a.m. and reopened to traffic at 3 p.m. both days.
During these times, motorists wishing to travel from northbound Illinois 3 to eastbound I-55-70-64 will need to use alternative routes.
The ramp closures are needed to perform bridge inspections. It is anticipated that the work will be completed on Tuesday.
Traffic control devices and message boards will be utilized during these ramp closures to assist motorists making their way through the work zone.
