Veteran Cardinal broadcaster and former player Mike Shannon opened a restaurant in the metro-east. Mike Shannon's Grill is now serving pasta, fish, chicken and steak entrees as well as burgers, sandwiches and salads in Edwardsville.
Shannon, who lives in Edwardsville, became a restaurateur over 25 years ago when he opened Mike Shannon's Steaks & Seafood in downtown St. Louis. Today, that restaurant is at 620 Market St., just a couple blocks from the ballpark.

A metro-east pizzeria closed its doors in O'Fallon, but is in the process of relocating the restaurant elsewhere in town. Schiappa's Italian Restaurant at 1050 Eastgate Drive in O'Fallon could reopen as soon as this week at 1411 W. U.S. 50 in O'Fallon, said restaurant manager Steve Schieppe.
In place of the shuttered Eastgate location, another restaurant, to be known as Amore Ristorante, will open there next month.
Schiappa's still operates a pizzeria at 402 S. Madison St. in Lebanon. Another at 1001 North Belt West in Swansea closed in 2007.
Scott Credit Union has a new branch in the metro-east. The credit union's new locale is now open in Wood River. The new branch on Wesley Drive near the Walmart Supercenter has a drive-up ATM and three drive through lanes. The credit union's branch in East Alton on Lewis & Clark Boulevard closed and relocated to this new site. Scott Credit Union has about $900 million in assets and almost 200 employees who serve more than 106,000 members worldwide. The credit union's other metro-east area locations in Belleville, Scott Air Force Base, Fairview Heights, Collinsville, O'Fallon, Edwardsville, Waterloo, Highland, Caseyville, Millstadt, Mascoutah, Troy, and its home office is in Edwardsville. B&G Music closed its store in downtown Belleville and is moving to Highland. The owner is in the process of setting up his music shop at 5 W. Monroe St. in Highland. Joe Hardin, a broker associate of Barber Murphy Group in O'Fallon, is listing the property the long-standing music store left at 310 E. Main St. Stay tuned.

And finally, with March Madness upon us, those of us stuck in the office during the tournament can still monitor our favorite teams online, which might also foster declining productivity during tourney time. However, according to Wisconsin-based J. J. Keller & Associates Inc., 20 percent of office managers feel March Madness improves employees' morale as 35 million American workers surveyed are taking part in college basketball tournament office pools. The research also found that 86 percent of workers follow tournament games and scores to some extent while at the office.
