St. Louis Cardinals disable David Freese

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that starting third baseman David Freese has been placed on the disabled list.

He'll miss at least the first week of the regular season. But the way Freese's balky back condition has persisted, it seems like this injury might be a threat to persist.

Second basemen Matt Carpenter and Daniel Descalso are both possibilities to play third while Freese is out of action.

Ty Wigginton, who has been awful this season with a .128 batting average and one home run, is also a possibility. He might not even make the team if he didn't have a guaranteed contract that pays $5 million over the next two years. But he does... So he's going to be in the mix.
