In a letter March 13, candidate for St. Clair Township supervisor Dave Barnes states: "I don't put much stock in the Sound-off column due to the fact that callers aren't man or woman enough to sign their name; all they want to do is spread rumors and lies that create division."
For Barnes to conclude that every Sound-off caller is a liar makes him either a liar, narrow-minded or incredibly naive. Did Barnes ever consider that one of the reasons some callers want to remain anonymous is because they might be risking their job?
If he were minimally aware of the corruption in St. Clair County, he would know some people may have something to lose by giving their opinion along with their identity. Of course Sound-off can be a forum to lie anonymously. But Barnes is creating division by calling people he knows nothing about liars.
I am a former St. Clair County Republican. A person in power needs to hear an opinion without assuming the source is a liar just because he doesn't know the person's name.
The best way to counter a lie is with facts, it's the Republican way.
The current Democrats in charge are a joke and Barnes might be a major improvement. But he needs to cease the name- calling and assumptions to be taken seriously.
