I was disappointed to see a candidate for Swansea trustee put out a website questioning the integrity of fellow candidates. The candidates in question are Doris Rebenstorff, Brian McGuire and Matthew Lanter. The website owner seems to have a problem of "conflict of interest" with these candidates. I would like to ask the owner: What have you done for Swansea lately?
Rebenstorff drives the Swansea senior van twice a week. Usually five to 10 people ride the van to doctors visits and grocery stores. Would the website owner be willing to sit in a van on a parking lot for a couple of hours when the temperature is 101?
McGuire is the brother of our fire chief but I see no real conflict there. I see a man who has genuine interest in Swansea. Brian McGuire is the president of the Swansea Park Board and also a volunteer for the fire department. Park Board meetings are held at 7 a.m. Saturdays. Who else would be dedicated enough to get up extra early for a meeting? Also who would risk his life to fight a fire anytime of the day or night under any weather condition for $8 a call?
Lanter is also a volunteer firefighter. He has the dedication to respond to any fire or rescue without hesitation. LikeMcGuire he must spend many hours on Monday night's training and receives the same $8 for risking his life to protect the residents of Swansea.
So again I ask the website owner: What have you done for the village lately?
I am proud to say I know each of these individuals and would not hesitate to cast my vote for all of them.
