I attended the St. Clair Township meeting of March 26. What a fiasco. The Swansea mayor had delivered the sewer contract to the township supervisor so I wanted to see if it got approved. The township trustees were asked to vote on this contract without even seeing it. The only thing they saw was the supervisor's synopsis of what was in it. They were given this document at the meeting.
No attorney was present to advise even though this is the most important thing the township has had to do in four years. I understand not having the attorney at every meeting. But he should have been there on this one.
Supervisor Tim Buchanan gave his opinion to reject. The public at the meeting were not allowed to speak as the public comments section of the meeting had passed. I could not counter the falsehoods coming from Buchanan.
Buchanan suggested we pulled the figures out of the air even though he knows we hired an outside firm. He knows we went with a lower figure than what this firm suggested.
I talked with a township trustee after the meeting, he did not know this. Also, it was not a split vote to reject the township proposal as Buchanan stated, it was unanimous. I did learn a very important lesson from this meeting.
Swansea must deliver all future correspondence to all board members. We cannot rely on the supervisor to pass on the information.
