I reviewed a letter mailed out by Caseyville Township trustee candidate Rick Donovan in which he criticizes the age of some of its current board members. Donovan also criticizes Township Highway Commissioner Dale Black for lending aid to St.Stephen's Church by clearing off the parking lot for a funeral.
I understand this is politics and the low-hanging fruit of unjust criticism is tempting for candidates who have no real experience in public service. However, Donovan's innuendo toward those who have proven themselves as responsible stewards of taxpayer funds is not only unfounded, but downright insulting to every senior citizen anywhere.
I also applaud Black for answering the call and lending aid, which is the primary function of township government, to St. Stephen's on the day a funeral. I guess Donovan would have preferred watching the friends and family of the deceased get stuck in the church's driveway for on their way to the cemetery?
I am aware of Donovan's constant complaining about sign locations, but what will Donovan do to serve taxpayers is my question?
