Cardinal fans returning to Busch Stadium next week to begin another season will pay more on average for tickets compared to last season.
The latest statistics from the Team Marketing Report Fan Cost Index in Chicago reveal that the average ticket price for St. Louis Cardinal games in 2013 increased by 3.7 percent from 2012, for an average ticket price of $33.11. Half of the 30 Major League Baseball teams have increased average ticket prices this season.
The Toronto Blue Jays made the largest price increases this season with a 29.6 percent jump in average cost. The Chicago White Sox made the largest average price cuts at 10.2 percent.
The Cardinals price increase is higher than the league average. The average price increase across the league is 2.7 percent -- $27.73 per ticket. The percentage change is the largest since 2009.
A representative from the Cardinals could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
The Cardinals first home game is against the Cincinnati Reds at 3:15 p.m. Monday.
The Boston Red Sox made no changes to their prices this season, but still have the highest average per-ticket price at $53.38. The San Diego Padres have the cheapest average ticket cost at $15.99.
