Anyone who knows me can tell you that I have carried some sort of pocket knife all of my life. So when they restricted the carrying of pocket knives aboard airlines after 9/11, I was not too happy. But after careful thought and consideration, I decided this was the best decision for the safety of all passengers along with all the other safety measures that were instituted.
So I believe that the decision by the Transportation Security Administration to let passengers carry small knives aboard aircraft is ludicrous. Even if the flight attendants had training in self-defense or training in how to respond to attacks (they are not trained in either now), the safety of all passengers would still be at risk.
Keep knives off of planes. I'll be more than happy to pack my knives away in my luggage along with the shoes I don't wear to airports now. Flip-flops and empty pockets are fine for the safety of all.
