Carlyle scored five runs in the first two innings Tuesday and then relied on the pitching of Cody Huels in a 7-3 Cahokia Conference baseball win over the Columbia Eagles.
Huels allowed eight hits and three runs over six innings, striking out seventh. Matt Hilmes was 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs for Carlyle (10-2 overall, 1-0 in league play) while Tyson Boehne and Logan Zachry were 3-for-4.
Zachry and Kyle Jackson drove in two runs each for the Indians, while Brock Johns was 3-for-3 with a double for Columbia (7-2, 0-1). Evan Dake was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Collinsville 4, Alton 3
Collinsville handed Alton its first loss this season as the Kahoks scored two runs in the first and second innings and then rode the pitching of junior Tanner Houck.
The University of Missouri recruit allowed three hits in five innings, striking out eight as he bested the 7-1 Redbirds and Alton ace Ray Bailey. Briley Kellison, Zack Mathes and Paul Suess all drove in runs for the Kahoks (6-0 overall, 1-0 in the SWC).
O'Fallon 5, Granite City 3
Jeff Hahs had a two-run homer and Tyler Herbert was 2-for-2 and also got the pitching save in relief of winner Blake Deatherage as O'Fallon (7-4 overall, 2-0 in the SWC) held off Granite City (3-4, 0-1) in a Southwestern Conference game.
Centralia 3, Althoff 2
Drew Shores had a triple and an RBI and Ryan Shipley also drove in a run as Centralia (4-3) edged Althoff (3-5) in a South Seven Conference game. Centralia pitcher Mason McReaken struck out seven and allowed four hits in a complete-game performance. Althoff's Atlee Champion was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
Red Bud 4, Central 2
Red Bud (8-1) remained one of the area's hottest teams as Colin Wiegard drove in three runs and Greg Godier and Jacob Miller each had a double among their two hits. Kenny Wilson got the pitching win, striking out seven as he outdueled Luke Jackson and the Cougars (4-2).
Wesclin 4, Freeburg 3
The Wesclin Warriors scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat the Freeburg Midgets on Tuesday and stay unbeaten with a 5-0 record.
The Warriors had nine hits in the Cahokia Conference Mississippi Division game.
In the seventh, Madison Rypien drove in Ally Isenhower with a double to tie the game and then Brittany Rakers singled home Rypien with the go-ahead run.
Rakers also had a solo homer in the game, while Rypien collected three hits.
Ashley Elbe went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, Ashley Beck went 2-for-3 with a double and Savannah Stevens had a double and two RBIs for the Midgets, who led 3-2 heading into the seventh inning.
Mater Dei 5, Triad 4
Mater Dei pushed across a run in the top of the 10th inning to beat Triad.
Jamie Voss led Mater Dei's nine-hit attack by going 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs.
Winning pitcher Jamie Voss allowed eight hits, while strikeout seven and walking three.
Losing pitcher Kelsey Bailey struck out 15 and hit a home run.
Lebanon 7, Marissa 6
The Lebanon Greyhounds survived a late rally by the Marissa Meteors. The Meteors scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, but came up short against the Greyhounds.
Paige Nunn had a triple and drove in two runs for the Greyhounds. Malory Schmitt chipped in two hits, including a triple, and an RBI.
Alton 9, Collinsville 3
Morgan Butler surrendered only five hits and one earned run as the Alton Redbirds beat the Collinsville Kahoks in a Southwestern Conference game.
The Redbirds had six hits and took advantage of five Collinsville errors.
Columbia 3, Carlyle 0
Brianna Weilbacher struck out 14 en route to a three-hit shutout as the Columbia Eagles (6-1) blanked the Carlyle Indians (3-4). Caitlyn Touchette drove in two runs during a three-run, fifth-inning rally by the Eagles.
Belleville West 19, East St. Louis 0
The Belleville West Maroons had 20 hits in routing the East St. Louis Flyerettes in a Southwestern Conference game.
Brittany Barlow and Hannah Slimack each went 3-for-3 to lead the hit parade.
Red Bud 9, Central 6
Pitcher Becca Vogt helped her own cause by going 3-for-4 with a double and a triple at the plate in the Red Bud Musketeers' win over the Central Cougars.
Cassidy Melliere had two hits and collected four RBIs for the Musketeers.
Jolyn Lake went 3-for-3 with a double, a homer and two RBIs in leading Okawville past Odin.
Okawville pitcher Kaelyn Schnoeherr struck out nine.
O'Fallon 7, Granite City 1
Lauren Knight and Quin Wilkes each had a hat trick Tuesday as the O'Fallon Panthers ripped Granite City in an SWC game.
The host Panthers improved to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the league. Granite City, whose only goal came from Hannah Averick in the second half, slipped to 2-3 and 0-2.
Belleville East 1, Edwardsville 1
Two of the top teams in the SWC settled for a 1-1 tie at the Edwardsville Sports Complex.
Emily Costantini scored for East (4-0-1, 1-0-1) and Ashley Krekovich scored for the Tigers (4-1-1, 1-1-1). Costantini, who missed most of last season after ACL surgery, has four goals.
Triad 6, Waterloo 1
The visiting Knights stayed hot with an easy Mississippi Valley Conference win as Allison Wendt scored two goals and Michelle Grotefendt, Natalie Sipole, Madisen Thomas and Meredith Wendt had one apiece.
Triad is 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the MVC. Waterloo, which got a goal from Quinn Rudloff, fell to 3-6 and 0-3.
