Police have released images of an armed man who robbed a beauty supply shop shortly before noon Monday in the middle of one of Edwardsville's busiest blocks.
The man entered Sally Beauty Supply on Troy Road at 11:43 a.m. Monday and displayed a black semiautomatic handgun, according to the Edwardsville Police Department. He left carrying a blue US Bank deposit bag, but Edwardsville Detective Barry Jones declined to say how much money was taken.
No one was injured in the robbery. Jones declined to say how many people were in the store at the time.
The store is located on a strip attached to a major grocery store on one of Edwardsville's busiest streets, near a Schnucks grocery and Target store.
"It's a busy shopping area; there's people coming and going all the time," Jones said. "We're hoping someone saw him or at least saw where he went."
The man is described as a black male, age 20 to 25, approximately 5-foot-6 with a thin build. He was seen on video cameras wearing a dark stocking cap, dark sweatshirt and dark pants.
While the man bears some resemblence to a suspect that robbed a Sally Beauty Supply in Fairview Heights recently, Jones said they are fairly certain it is not the same person.
Police asked that anyone with information contact Jones at 656-2131, or an anonymous tip line at 692-7552.
