I will vote for John Coers for the Board of Education in O'Fallon District 90. I have had the opportunity to attend many board meetings in O'Fallon. I have always been impressed with the professional demeanor of the District 90 board. Much of the tone of this board resonates with Coers. As president, he controls the tempo of the meeting and continually makes sure that the meeting runs according to the rules of the Open Meetings Act.
In recent meetings over the past few years, the District 90 board has had to make some difficult decisions for which total board support did not exist. On some issues, the differences between board members have been strong. In these tense moments, Coers has remained poised and showed significant leadership in allowing for the opinion of the board members to be heard and discussed. As the district progresses through the tough issues ahead, this kind of seasoned leadership will be necessary to make sure that the district keeps the priorities of students first.
I have read different opinions of Coers from those who believe the he has led the district on a wasteful spending campaign. When I read this, I am reminded of the fiscally responsible decisions that this board of education has made.
Under the leadership of John Coers, District 90 has become the most desirable district in our area. I, for one, will vote for Coers to see that this continues.
