SHILOH — A man with a gun on Thursday morning held up the Payless Shoe Source store in the Greenmount Crossing shopping center.
Police Chief Jim Stover said a man came into the store at 9:37 a.m., pointed a handgun at a clerk and demanded money. The suspect was given an undisclosed amount of cash and then he ran toward the portion of the parking lot in front of the Target department store.
No injuries were reported.
Stover said the suspect was described as a black male, 5-foot, 7-inches to 5-foot, 8-inches tall, with a slim build and a dark complexion. He was wearing a black jacket of a felt-like material and had a mask over his face.
Kurt Joseph, an employee at neighboring Cartridge World, said he came up to the front of the store at 9:50 a.m. to answer the phone, and a bunch of police cars were outside.
He said he did not see or hear anything related to the robbery, but Joseph said his store owner's wife heard about it and called, telling him to make sure the back door was locked and to stay alert.
Police Thursday morning were driving up and down the rows on the parking lot, looking for clues, and yellow crime-scene tape was strung up in landscaping trees in front of the store's entrance. Disappointed customers arrived to find the store closed and said they were shocked to hear that someone robbed the store.
