BELLEVILLE — A fire call Wednesday led to pursuit of a drug suspect.
Belleville police and fire departments were called to Room 21 at the Terrace Motel, 747 South Belt West in Belleville, at 7:30 a.m. When they arrived they saw smoke and items consistent with methamphetamine production, and called the St. Clair County Drug Tactical Unit, said St. Clair County Sheriff's Lt. Kurt Eversman. DTU investigators responded and found an operating methamphetamine production system, Eversman said.
DTU investigators called Illinois State Police Meth Response Team, which removed the lab and the hazardous materials.
Through the investigation, a person of interest was developed. This person is identified as Bart M. Grissom, 33. Grissom is described as a white male, 6-feet, 1-inch tall, 280 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Grissom is currently wanted on an active probation warrant with bail set at $60,000. Grissom is known to frequent Belleville, Cahokia and Dupo.
Police asked that anyone who has information regarding the whereabouts of Grissom to call 618-277-5775 or 1-800-640-DIME (3463).
