Allow me to teach letter writers Matthew Paule and Carolyn Brown a civics lesson. There are six trustees in Swansea, so it was impossible for me to give myself a raise or do anything on retirement without a majority vote. If both of them would look at the minutes they would see that I voted to stop the pension.
The important part they both left out was that St. Clair Township Supervisor Tim Buchanan was on the board at the same time collecting the same pension while he was collecting another taxpayer-funded pension.
So Brown and Paule are right that the state is broke, but it is not because of Skip Kernan, The state is broke because of people like Buchanan, who wants two taxpayer-funded pensions, Tim's best friend St. Clair Township Supervisor Mark Burk and their other cast of characters.
