Oh my gosh, an armed robbery occurred in Shiloh this week. People had better put their houses up for sale; the town is going down the tubes.
We doubt that anyone reacted that way to reports of an armed robbery of a Shiloh shoe store. More likely people expressed shock as some customers did, who felt it was an isolated incident. But those are the kinds of things you might hear if an armed robbery happened in Belleville.
The perception is that Shiloh is "safe" and Belleville has increasing crime -- even though statistics show that's not the case in Belleville.
This is a reminder that crime can happen anywhere, anytime. A gunman robbed a beauty supply store in Edwardsville last week right before noon in a busy shopping area.
People need to be alert for crime whether they are in a small town perceived as "safe" or a bigger city. The bad guys have cars, are mobile and do not brake for city limits signs.
