Regarding your news article on Friday: I voluntarily gave a statement to the Illinois State Police more than eight years ago about an anonymous complaint.
It is my understanding that a grand jury determined that no laws were broken and the anonymous complaint was without merit. I have never been arrested or charged with a crime of any kind. The record also indicates that without hesitation, I gave unlimited access to all drainage district accounts.
This is nothing more than an attempt to embarrass me personally and cast me in an unjust, negative light less than a week before an election.
It disappoints me that the Belleville News-Democrat would foster this type of political attack. I categorically deny any wrongdoing whatsoever. However, without the opportunity to review the video or audio tapes of my voluntary State Police interview for content or authenticity, I will refrain from further comment at this time.
