More than a 1,000 metro-east candidates are running in Tuesday's municipal election. Here is a Q&A for voters headed to the polls:
When can I vote?
Polls are open from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to Illinois law.
Where do I vote?
In St. Clair County, voters can find a list of polling places on the County Clerk's Office website, www.countyclerk.co.st-clair.il.us/Election+Info/.
"Put in your name and address and it will tell you where your polling place is," St. Clair County Clerk Bob Delaney said. "If you check ahead, it could save you some travel on Election Day."
Delaney said the only polling place to change in St. Clair County for this election is the site of Belleville Township Precincts 1 and 2. These residents now vote at the First Apostolic Church at 1648 Lasalle St. The polls were previously located at St. Teresa school.
* In Madison County, voters can get information about where to vote at www.madisonvotes.com.
* In Monroe County, call County Clerk Dennis Knobloch's office at 618-939-8681, ext. 302.
* In Clinton County, call County Clerk and Recorder Mary Rakers at 618-594-2464, ext. 630.
* In Randolph County, call County Clerk Pat Laramore at 618-826-5000, ext. 191
Who is running?
All the townships, municipalities and school board elections for members with terms that expire this year are held Tuesday. There are also elections for some special districts, such library and water district boards. County and federal candidates are not on this ballot. However, many voters will be asked ballot questions.
Who do I call if I have a problem?
In St. Clair County, call Delaney directly at 618-277-6600, ext. 2380.
"Either we will handle it or we will refer to state's attorney's office," Delaney said. "But the important thing for people to remember is that if they have a problem they need to call us right away. Don't go home and stew about it and then call to complain. Call while you're at the polling place while we have a chance to fix the problem."
In Madison County, call County Clerk Debbie Ming-Mendoza at 618-692-6290.
In Monroe County, call County Clerk Dennis Knobloch's office at 618-939-8681, ext. 302.
In Clinton County, call County Clerk and Recorder Mary Rakers at 618-594-2464, ext. 630.
In Randolph County, call County Clerk Pat Laramore at 618-826-5000, ext. 191.
What do I need to bring with me to vote?
"The best thing to do is bring your ID and your voter registration card with you to the polling place," Delaney said. "It's not the law in Illinois that you have to have identification. But, if you bring them, it helps to guarantee that you won't have any problems."
