Sen. Bill Haine shouldn't throw all the babies out with the bath water, as he is proposing in legislation to start anew with the Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees. Don't punish all of the trustees, just Trustee Roger Herrin and his sidekicks for their underhanded strategy of stacking the deck and calling a special meeting to elect officers when there are three vacant seats on the board.
They wanted to elect Herrin, a big campaign contributor to Gov. Pat Quinn, as chairman. Here we go again with the same old Chicago politics. If they had pulled it off, maybe Herrin and his sidekicks would have done for SIU and the residents of llinois what their friends in Springfield have already done for public education and the pension debt. Enough said.
I applaud the honesty of trustee Marquita Wiley and student trustee David Hamilton for doing the right thing by insisting that no chairman be appointed until there is a full board. Quinn needs to do his job by appointing honest trustees, not politicians, and to stop wasting time and our money on gay marriage and drivers license for illegals.
Where's Ed Hightower and Richard Mark when we need them?
