Jewelry store owner Dennis Keck will close his Keck Jewelers on April 20 at Belleville Crossing and reopen the store next month in Millstadt, where he also plans to open a barbecue restaurant.
Keck has been in the jewelry store business for more than 25 years in the metro-east, including the last five years at the Belleville shopping center off Illinois 15. On May 1, he anticipates reopening at a shopping center on Washington Street in Millstadt, where by around June 15 he hopes to open Smokin' K's Barbecue & More.
Keck has participated in barbecuing competitions. Keck's team, known as 4 Smokin' Butts, has ranked among the top 25 in the country over the past three years. Keck said the new restaurant will focus on healthier barbecue that does not fry food or use grease and also will feature vegetarian dishes.
