The Madison County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help to identify two suspects in a residential burglary in Godfrey.
The crime happened around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of East Delmar Avenue when a man came home and interrupted several people burglarizing his home. The suspects fled when the homeowner confronted them.
Investigators determined the burglars forced their way into the home and specifically targeted metal items that could be sold for scrap. Sheriff's deputies searched the area but could not find the suspects, said Capt. T. Mike Dixon, chief of detectives for the sheriff's office.
Deputies learned two subjects, matching the general description of the people seen by the homeowner, entered an area business shortly after the burglary. Video surveillance shows two people inside the business, and police are hoping someone can help identify them.
Police were not sure if the two people were involved in the burglary, but investigators would like to speak with them about it.
Anyone who believes they know the subjects captured on the surveillance video is asked to call the Madison County Sheriff's Office at 618-692-4433, 618-692-0871, or via the anonymous tip line at 618-296-3000.
