Edwardsville police are asking for the public's help to find who stole cash from an ATM near the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville campus.
The SIUE Credit Union ATM, located at 480 University Park Drive near Illinois 157, was burglarized sometime between the last transaction on the evening of March 29 and 6:57 a.m. April 1 when police were notified, said Edwardsville Police Chief Jay Keeven.
The suspect or suspects broke into the door of the kiosk that houses the machine. Because the investigation is ongoing, Keeven did not say if a security camera captured footage of the theft. The camera captures footage of the ATM, but not the door, he said.
Keeven said a "considerable sum" of money was taken in the theft but declined to provide an amount.
It was the first theft at the ATM, which has been at the location since 2003, said Kathy McKinnon, president and CEO of the SIUE Credit Union.
Anyone with information is asked to call Edwardsville Detective Mike Lybarger at 618-656-2131.
