Southwestern Illinois College Monday night will host a competition in which local high school students will pitch ideas for a proposed new product or business in hopes of winning cash prizes.
Called the Allsup Elevator Pitch, 20 students who live within SWIC District 522 will make a two-minute presentation to a panel of judges.
The contest starts at 5 p.m. at SWIC's Belleville campus and includes students from Belleville East and West, Gibault, O'Fallon and Red Bed high schools. The top five proposals win $500 in cash.
School leaders said the idea behind the contest is to get young people to think creatively and to try to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.
