Here are some ways for Illinois to save

April 18, 2013

I'm wondering what, if any, budget restraint the Secretary of State has. I'm sure Illinois has the most expensive temporary license plates in the country. I have to admit they are quite elaborate.

California uses a 1-inch by 5-inch slip of paper, issued by the dealer when a vehicle is sold. California has three times the number of cars and this seems to work just fine.

Why do we need front plates? Cut the cost in half; get rid of the front plate. The front plate only serves to screw up the aesthetics of a beautiful car. What about the Secretary of State's private police force, do we really need this? Let the State Police deal with license violations.

These changes would save Illinois millions of dollars.
