An elderly customer hit the gas instead of the brake, sending her car through the front doors of the Bank of Edwardsville branch in Belleville about 10:30 a.m. Friday.
The bank's drive-up and ATM remain open, but the interior services will be closed for the rest of Friday, said Molly Watkins, assistant vice president and bank branch manager.
The elderly customer was pulling into a handicapped space in front of the main entrance when she hit the gas and the car lunged forward, Watkins said. The front doors were mangled in the impact, but the woman was unhurt.
No other injuries were reported.
Belleville firefighters and police were handling the crash, but no official word was immediately available.
The bank branch is at the intersection of West Main Street and Frank Scott Parkway in Belleville. Watkins said customers requiring lobby services on Friday should visit the Bank of Edwardsville's Swansea branch, 3685 Sullivan Drive.
