BELLEVILLE — Art on the Square organizers will unveil a new set of sculptures on May 3 during its third annual sculpture tour.
Art on the Square purchased the sculptures at last year's art show and will donate the pieces to the city, said DeDe Farquhar, director of the sculpture tour and an Art on the Square volunteer.
This year's Art on the Square is planned for May 17-19.
Art on the Square developed the Sculpture in the City program in 2007 and has acquired more than 20 sculptures for the city since then through donations by individuals and organizations.
The Sculpture in the City tour will give attendees a sense of where each piece of artwork is located in the city and the stories that accompany each piece, Farquhar said.
"You hear the personal stories of the artist or people who donated them or who they're donated in honor of," Farquhar said. "There's all kinds of layers of stories that go along with these pieces."
The tour is sponsored by the St. Clair County Historical Society and Art on the Square.
Residents have until April 30 to get tickets for the afternoon session of the tour. The morning session has sold out.
The tour is $20 per person and includes brunch and a bus tour.
Tickets are available at the St. Clair County Historical Society. Checks should be made payable to the society and could be sent to the society at 701 E. Washington St., Belleville, IL 62220.
Brunch will be served at Lindenwood University's welcome center at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon tour session will leave the university at 1 p.m. and return at 3:30 p.m.
