The tables reported stolen from St. Clare School Sunday morning, were actually borrowed by a parishioner for a yard sale. The O'Fallon Police Department (OFPD) has closed the investigation.
According to Captain Jeff Wilde, of the OFPD, suspects are no longer being sought.
"It turns out they were borrowed from someone who attends the church for a yard sale," Wild said.
The incident was reported at 9:18 p.m. Sunday. A security camera captured footage of two men going into the cafeteria at St. Clare Catholic Grade School and taking 14 tables.
Police later found that school officials knew church members were borrowing the tables.
