Since our liberal Illinois legislators savor being among the first in supporting Obamacare, paid abortions, gay marriage, driver's licensea for illegals and eliminating Second Amendment rights, why not include legalizing marijuana? This will surely be the next thing on their social agenda rather than addressing the huge budget deficit and out-of-control spending. They keep fiddling while Illinois is burning.
Many liberals want us to believe that smoking marijuana is OK and does no harm. It does. According to the National Institute of Drug Abuse's study released Sept. 20, 2012, "Marijuana has serious harmful effect on the skills required to drive safely, alertness, the ability to concentrate, coordination and the ability to react quickly. The effects can last up to 24 hours after smoking marijuana."
Data have also shown that while smoking marijuana, people share the same lack of coordination on standard drunken driving tests as people who drink too much.
Marijuana addiction has the same characteristics as alcohol, tobacco or caffeine and is often a bridge to heroin. Let's hope it never becomes legal in Illinois, but if it does, pray that someone doesn't have a few drinks, smoke a joint and drive home. This is not in anyone's best interest.
