Signal Hill Fire Department receives $132K federal grant

The Signal Hill Fire Department has received a $132,620 grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.

The grant can be used to purchase equipment, personal protective equipment, training and vehicles to help improve the department's response capability to fires and other emergencies, according to a news release from U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Springfield.

The Signal Hill Fire Department grant is part of a total of $279,688 in the Department of Homeland Securities Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The program will award about $337.5 million nationwide this fiscal year.
