A Belleville man and a Lebanon man who recently graduated from the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute Basic Firefighter Operations Academy will both serve on the Belleville Fire Department.
John Eachus, of Belleville, and Tyler Whitney, of Lebanon, participated in a completion ceremony conducted at the institute's Champaign campus on Friday. In all, 30 participants from fire departments across Illinois successfully completed the training.
The course teaches firefighters basic fire fighting skills for single-family dwellings and commercial buildings, as well as rescue techniques. The program uses realistic live-fire scenarios to encourage students to master basic skills and work safely and efficiently on the fireground. Students also train in real life situations and learn proper use of fire fighting and rescue equipment.
