Althoff's offense awakes in win over Central

Sam Haudrich was 3-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBIs and Luke Frazier added a double, a triple and two RBIs as Althoff knocked off Central 8-3 Monday in prep baseball.

Althoff's Ben Hankammer got the pitching win for the Crusaders (8-9), striking out 10 without a walk and holding the Cougars (7-8) to six hits.

Central's Kellen Lake had three of them and also drive in two runs.

Triad 14, Waterloo 7

Triad (12-6) built an early 5-0 lead and held off a late Waterloo rally in a battle between two of the top Mississippi Valley Conference teams. Tyler Carpenter and Dalton Johnson each had three hits for Triad while Duane York had a double, a home run and four RBIs. Triad outhit Waterloo 17-11 ad Jakob Thomas got the pitching for the Knights. Jeremy Rettig had a double and three RBIs for Waterloo (11-6) and Taylor Brumfield had two RBIs.

Gibault 7, Freeburg 5

Pitcher Austin Beccue finally worked his way out of a four-run seventh inning to finish off a complete-game performance as Gibault (15-5) edged Freeburg (13-8). Wes Degener and Chandler Purcell each drove in two runs for Gibault while Auggie Ward was 3-for-4 with a double.

Chris Smith had two doubles and two RBIs for Freeburg and Derrick Rozycke was 3-for-3 with a triple.

Columbia 14, Dupo 0

Columbia pitcher Austin Floarke held Dupo to one hit and struck out five as the Eagles (16-3) overwhelmed the Tigers (1-10), Camren Shewfelt had two RBIs for Columbia and Evan Dake was 1-for-3 with a double.

Red Bud 8, New Athens 2

Greg Godier had a double and triple and Kenny Wilson also had two hits and an RBI to help Red Bud (11-7) knock off New Athens (9-9). Godier also was the winning pitcher scattering four hits and striking out six.
