McKendree is seventh at meet

— The McKendree University women's track and field team registered a seventh-place finish Saturday at the St. Louis University Invitational.

The Bearcats collected a total of 43 points, and scored in nine different events. Senior Kristin Wykoff (Highland, Ill./Triad) had the most productive day for McKendree and she earned points in three events. Wykoff was second in the discus throw with a toss of 125 feet, nine inches (38.32 meters). She was also third in the hammer throw as she cleared a distance of 147 feet, eight inches (45.02 meters) and took fourth in the shot put at 37 feet, 6 3/4 inches (11.45 meters).

With her toss in the hammer throw, Wykoff topped her own school record of 140 feet, 3 1/2 inches set just last month at the Billiken Kick-Off Meet.

Junior Lauren Ewart (Troy, Ill./Triad) established a new team mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Ewart crossed the finish line in a time of 12:48.68. She finished seventh in the event at the SLU Invitational.

Junior Hannah Inyart (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) took third place in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:54.67. Junior LaTia Jefferson (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) posted a sixth-place effort in the triple jump with a top effort of 37 feet, 2 1/4 inches (13.33 meters). Junior Brittany Willis (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South) brought home eighth place in the 400-meter dash as she crossed the finish line with a time of 59.54 seconds. Rounding out the list of top individual efforts was freshman Hannah Wilhelm (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin), who was eighth in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 11 3/4 inches (10.66 meters).

McKendree entered two relay events and each managed a top-eight finish. The Bearcats' 4 x 100-meter relay squad comprised of Willis and freshmen Lynn Ford (St. Louis, Mo./Normandy), Jessica Gerber (Bethalto, Ill./Civic Memorial) and Emma Basler (Anna, Ill./Anna-Jonesboro) took seventh place with a time of 51.38 seconds. McKendree also placed eighth in the 4 x 400-meter dash with a final time of 4:15.90. The quartet of Gerber, Willis, senior Ciera Landolt (Troy, Ill./Triad) and sophomore Christine Cunningham (Troy, Ill./Triad) participated in the 4 x 400-meter relay for the Bearcats.

Next up for the McKendree women's track and field team is the Drake Relays, which will be held April 26-27 in Des Moines, Iowa.
