Good job on food drive

April 24, 2013

I wish to commend all the children and youths of our community for hosting an area food drive, and especially to the Belleville School District 118 administration for coordinating it. Thanks to a very generous community for the many canned goods and cash donations to local food pantries.

Our church is one of the recipients of the sacrificial giving of our community. Our food pantry has been in existence for more than 20 years, serving the folks of Belleville in cooperation with other faith-based pantries. This year's collection appeared to be at least twice of what we have received in years past. And it came at a great time.

Besides the donations from our own congregation, we are able to serve those in need due to the three food drives: children, Boy Scouts and postal workers. The collection we received on April 15 will enable us to provide food for about 1 1/2 to 2 months.

As with other helping agencies, we have seen our demands nearly doubled in the past four years. This year's drive was one of the best I can remember.

Thank you to all who made this collection a success. The Belleville area is a great place to be.
