Tigers rally late to get past Maroons

The Edwardsville Tigers rallied for a run to tie the score after there were two outs in the seventh inning, and then exploded for six runs in the eighth inning to beat the Belleville West Maroons 8-2 Wednesday in a Southwestern Conference baseball game at West High School.

Jacob Fisher singled and stole second with two outs in the seventh. Jordan Hovey then delivered an RBI single to tie the score at 2-2.

Alec Pizini's RBI single brought home Drew Curtis with the go-ahead run in the eighth, and the Tigers didn't let up from there.

The Tigers improved to 15-6 overall, 5-2 in the SWC.

The Maroons dropped to 11-8 overall, 4-3 in the SWC.

Aaron Meyer and Alexander Sharos each went 2-for-3 and Nick Van Osdale drove in a run for the Maroons.

Granite City 1, Belleville East 0

Austin Buzick threw a three-hit shutout as the Warriors edged the Lancers (12-8, 4-3) in a SWC game.

The game was a pitchers' duel between Buzick, who struck out eight and walked one, and East's Sam Basset, who also allowed three hits while striking out six and walking two.

Brian Nemsky drove in the lone run of the game in the fourth inning for the Warriors (9-9, 3-3).

Dominic Blaylock had two of the Lancers' three hits.

Triad 4, Mascoutah 2

Pitcher Jordan Felax surrendered only four hits in leading the Knights past the Indians in a Mississippi Valley Conference game.

Felax went the distance, striking out five and walking one.

Keaton Wright had a pair of doubles and Cody Wright had a two RBIs for the Knights (13-7, 4-2), while Maciek Milas had two hits and two RBIs for the Indians (13-8, 4-2).

Highland 7, Civic Memorial 1

Austin McCloud threw a four-hitter and Joel Mason went 2-for-2 as the Bulldogs (17-4, 6-0) beat the Eagles (2-15, 0-6).


O'Fallon 6, Collinsville 2

The Panthers scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out an SWC win over the Kahoks.

The Kahoks went into the sixth leading 2-0 thanks to a two-run double by Alex Holten in the third inning.

Taylor Bowlby picked up the win for the Panthers (13-4, 4-1).

Caitlyn Brombolich took the loss for the Kahoks (11-7, 1-4).

Triad 15, Mascoutah 0

Kelsey Bailey threw a five-inning no-hitter as the Knights beat the Indians in a Mississippi Valley Conference game.

Bailey struck out 10 and walked two.

Jordyn Alford, Jenn Bailey, Mycala Feldman and Amy Hunt all collected three hits for the Knights, who had 19 hits in the game.

Alton 14, Metro-East Lutheran 2

Jordyn Roady drove in three runs and Georgia Dodson and Katelyn Presley both had two RBIs as the Redbirds routed the Knights.

Alton pitcher Morgan Butler allowed four hits and two earned runs in three innings of work.

Girls soccer

Granite City 3, Highland 1

Amber Cholevik, Mabry Lewis and Alli Yates all scored goals as the Warriors beat the Bulldogs.

Morgan Sikora scored Highland's lone goal in the second half.

Granite City goalie Gabrielle Hartin had three saves, while Highland goalie Abbey Johnson had six.

Mater Dei 3, Greenville 2

Hope Huelsmann, Lauren Krebs and Abby Niemeyer all tallied goals in Mater Dei's win over Greenville.

Knights goalie Danielle Timmermann had five saves.
