O'Fallon man injured in two-car crash near St. Jacob

A metro-east man was injured and cited in a two-vehicle accident Friday afternoon near St. Jacob.

Illinois State Police MSgt. Brent Beltz said that at 3:34 p.m., 37-year-old Michael Zimmerman of O'Fallon, was injured and trapped in his car when his vehicle rear-ended another vehicle. Beltz said Zimmerman was driving a GMC van southbound on Illinois 4, near the intersection at Keck Road, when Zimmerman failed to reduce his speed and drove into the back bumper of 39-year-old John Masterson's Chevrolet pickup. Masterson, 39, of Pocahontas, was not injured.

Zimmerman was transported to St. Louis University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition Friday night.

Beltz said Zimmerman was cited for failing to reduce his speed to avoid an accident and for operating an uninsured vehicle.
