Highland proves to be too much for Maroons

The Highland Bulldogs started fast and didn't let up as they battered Belleville West starter Brendan Saak for seven runs in three innings Friday and went on for a 9-3 win.

Highland, taking advantage of some shaky Maroons' defense, tallied four runs in the second inning and added three more in the third to take a 7-1 lead.

Grant Geppert and Joe Duncan paced the Bulldogs' 11-hit attack, combining for four hits and four RBIs.

Geppert pitched the first five innings to get the win, allowing three runs on five hits.

Saak took the loss for Belleville West.

Okawville 6, Steeleville 1

Ryan Burrough belted a two-run home run while Jake Hensler also drove in a pair of runs as Okawvlle ran past Steeleville.

The Rockets scored once in the first inning added two runs in both the second and third, building a 5-0 lead.

Burrough was the winning pitcher, going six innings and allowing just six hits.

Freeburg 10, Lebanon 0

This one was over in a hurry as the Midgets scored nine times in the first inning and went on for a lopsided Cahokia Conference triumph.

Nick Young and Nathan Fritz both had two RBIs, giving starting pitcher Austin Caravia all the support he needed.

Caravia also added a run-scoring single.

Valmeyer 6, Red Bud 2

Hunter Brewer pitched a complete game for Valmeyer, which broke the Cahokia Conference game open with a five-run fourth.

Chris Hanson and Zach Williams both drove in runs for the Pirates in the victory over the Musketeers.


O'Fallon 2, Triad 1

Panthers ace Taylor Bowlby won her showdown with Triad's Jenn Bailey as the Panthers posted a come-from-behind win.

Jordyn Alford gave Triad a 1-0 lead in the second inning before Bowlby socked a solo homer and Allison Underwood added an RBI single off Bailey.

Both Panthers runs came in the fourth inning.

Lebanon 4, Freeburg 3

The Greyhounds scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Cahokia Conference foe Freeburg.

Freeburg scored three runs off winning pitcher Hayley Cummings in the top of the seventh, giving it a 3-2 lead.

Lebanon would win it in the bottom of the seventh.

Breese Central 6, Mascoutah 2

Mady Ratermann pitched five strong innings and added a two-run single as the Cougars defeated the Indians.

Abby Ratermann stroked a two-run double for Central, which broke a 2-2 tie by scoring twice in both the fifth and sixth innings.
