1 -- Swiss National Day Celebration. 6-8:30 p.m., Highland First Baptist Church. Sponsored by the Highland Sister Cities organization. Free admission. Doors open for registration at 5:45 p.m. Activities include easy German immersion classes, music, singing, travelogs, Swiss folk tales, fondue making and sampling, crafts, games, competitions, door prizes and light refreshments. Bonfire and singest with musical accompaniment by accordionist Mardy Eisloeffel. Sister city is Sursee, Switzerland.
1-6 -- Bond County Fair, Greenville.
2-4 -- Mascoutah Homecoming and Augustfest. Begins at 5 p.m. Friday, closes at 11 p.m. Sunday, Scheve Park, Mascoutah. Parades at 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Food, music.
3 -- St. Anthony's Picnic, St. Anthony's Church, Lively Grove. Chicken dinner served from 4-8 p.m. Quilt and cash bingo at 6:30 p.m. Polka Mass at 4 and 6 p.m. Picnic attractions and music all evening.
3 -- Corn Fest. 4 p.m., Charter Oak School, 9272 Schuline Road, Schuline. Tours of eight-sided, one-room schoolhouse, food, country store. Sponsored by Randolph County Historical Society.
3 -- St. Francis of Assisi Parish Picnic. Clinton and Second streets, Aviston. Chicken and roast beef dinner, 3:30-7:30 p.m. in air-conditioned parish center. Mass at 4 p.m. Quilt bingo, 6:30 p.m. Country store, basket booths, raffles.
3 -- St. Leo's Picnic, St. Leo's Catholic Church, Modoc. Family-style fried chicken dinner (carry-outs available), quilt and cash bingo, beer stand, poker stand, games for kids.
3 -- Archaeology Day. 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site. Demonstrations of ancient crafts, artifact processing, hands-on activities, dig tours and storytelling. Free.
3 -- Street Art Festival. Downtown Square, Highland. Artists transform the streets around the square into an outdoor art museum as they create street paintings in chalk. Food, bands. Free admission.
7 -- Prairie du Rocher Party in the Park. 7 p.m., city park. Music by Aftershock, food. Free; donations for musical guests. In case of rain, moves to American Legion Hall.
7 -- Car Cruise. 5-9 p.m., Dandy Inn, 1030 Lincoln Highway, Fairview Heights. No outside food or beverages allowed.
7-10 -- St. Clair County Fair. Belle-Clair Fairgrounds. Agricultural exhibits, livestock barns, carnival rides and games, arena events, bands, contests. Free admission; $4 parking.
9 -- Cruisin' the Dam Car Show. Dam West Recreation Center, Carlyle Lake. Free. Food, bands. Vintage, custom and performance cars and trucks.
9-11 -- Gateway Dulcimer Music Festival. National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. Classes for mountain and hammered dulcimer players, autoharp, guitar. Evening concerts featuring professional instructors. Vendors for music items. Class fees vary; concert $10.
10 -- Venedy Picnic and Homecoming, Brockschmidt Park. Music by the Venedy Band and The Beaucoup Botton Band. Fried chicken and roast beef supper. Bingo and kids games.
10 -- Charity Car and Bike Show, Kutter Park in East Alton. Sponsored by the Southern Illinois Camaro Club and Rosewood Heights Fire Department to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. 30 vehicle classes, 12 motorcycle classes with more than 120 class and specialty awards. Registration from 8 a.m. to noon; judging, noon; awards, 3 p.m. Fire truck and tow truck display for kids.
14 -- Car Cruise. 5-9 p.m., Dandy Inn, 1030 Lincoln Highway, Fairview Heights. No outside food or beverages allowed. First 100 cars get free commemorative plaques.
14-18 -- American Thresherman Show. Perry County Fairgrounds, Pinckneyville. Steam and antique tractor show with horse pull, antique tractor pull and ITPA pulls. Antique car show Sunday. Day events include plowing with horses, steam engines and tractors. Sawmill, veneer mill, shingle mill, blacksmith demonstrations. Pedal tractor pull. Flea market. Tractor parade uptown at 5 p.m. Thursday.
16-17 -- Columbia Daze. Metter Park, 211 E. Cherry. Music, food, carnival rides and games.
16-17 -- Freeburg Homecoming. Freeburg Recreation Park, 300 East Hill St. 86th annual homecoming will have truck and tractor pulls, fish fry, games, rides, quilt raffle, peach stand, food, refreshments.
16-18 -- Centralia Balloon Fest. Foundation Park. 40 hot air balloons, races, glows, tethered balloon rides, entertainment, craft fair, free childrens activity area and games, cardboard boat races, car show, fireworks. Admission $3 per day.
16-18 -- Germantown Spassfest. Schoendienst Field, Sycamore Street. German food, music, rides, washer and bags tournaments, brew-off, vendor and craft fair, cold beverages.
17 -- Waterloo Optimist Bull Ride. 7:30 p.m., Monroe County Fairgrounds, Waterloo. Championship Bull Riding Horizon Tour. Third Annual Blue Army Bull Bash to benefit Waterloo Optimist Club's youth programs. Gates open at 5 p.m. Pre-event activities for kids. After-party and autograph session. Food, refreshments available for purchase. Admission: $15 in advance or $20 at the gate. Children 10 years or younger free with paying adult.
17 -- St. Augustine's Kirchenfest. Hecker Community Center Building and grounds, Hecker. Old-fashioned fried chicken and pork sausage dinners, 3 p.m.; Mass, 4 p.m.; quilt bingo, 6:30 p.m.; washer tournament, 7 p.m.; music, 7-11 p.m. Tiki Trot, youth/adult 5K run/walk, 8-8:30 p.m. Picnic attractions, stands.
18 -- D.A.R.E. Car, Truck, Motorcycle Show, Edwardsville High School parking lots, Center Grove Road and Illinois 157, Edwardsville. Free attendance. Registration 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Vehicle and bike entry, $15; display, $10. First 250 vehicles entering the gate will get a dash plaque. Free photo of every vehicle. Attendance prizes, silent auction, vendors, free vendor bingo, 50/50 drawing. Childrens entertainment, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Free shuttle service. Proceeds benefit Edwardsville Police Department D.A.R.E. program to fight against drugs.

23-25 -- Midwest Salute to the Arts. Moody Park at Longacre, Fairview Heights. Juried art show, music, food. Chilren's creation station. Entertainment.
24 -- St. Teresa's Picnic, 4 p.m.-midnight. St. Teresa Parish, 1108 Lebanon Ave., Belleville. Polka Mass and dancers, bier garten, bands, childrens games and rides, fried chicken dinner, bingo, baskets.
24 -- Jim Knapp Memorial Little Pig Cookoff. Noon-midnight, BCDC Park, Beckemeyer. Pork steak cookoff, music from 10 bands, kids area, wiffleball and washer tournaments. Free admission. Proceeds go toward park maintenance and upgrades.
24-25 -- St. Paul Kirchenfest. 1412 Ninth St., Highland. Food (including Bavarian skillet dish prepared in a 500-pound skillet and a sit-down chicken dinner), bands, games, live auction, flea market, a competitive run, bike ride.
24-25 -- Harvest Thyme Festival. City Park, Carlyle. Crafts, kids activities, inflatables, food.
28 -- Car Cruise. 5-9 p.m., Dandy Inn, 1030 Lincoln Highway, Fairview Heights. No outside food or beverages allowed.
31-Sept. 1-2 -- Barnyard Olympics. 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Eckert's Orchards, 951 S. Green Mount Road, Belleville. Kids games: scoop shovel race, 11 a.m.; corn shucking, 1 p.m.; cherry seed-spitting contest, 3 p.m. Live music, carnival rides, animal petting, pony rides.
31-Sept. 1 -- St. Louis Antique Show, Bell-Clair Fairgrounds. More than 100 dealers from 32 states. $6 admission.
