September 2013 Festivals Calendar

The following events will occur during September 2013 in the metro-east.

September

1 -- St. Libory Schlambach Fest -- Wenneman Park, St. Libory. Run for the Son in the morning; washers tournament and entertainment in the afternoon. Bingo at 6 p.m. Games for kids.

1 -- Kaskaskia Immaculate Conception Church Picnic. 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Kaskaskia Island. Picnic games, tractor/truck pull, horseshoe tournament, bingo, country store, food, tours of historic church and Liberty Bell of the West shrine. Proceeds will be used for maintenance of church and cemetery.

2 -- Immaculate Conception Labor Day Picnic. 11 a.m.-10 p.m., at the "old church" on Main Street at Madison in Columbia. Chicken dinners, featuring homemade pies for dessert, 11 a.m.; quilt and cash bingo, 1 p.m.; music begins at 4 p.m. Burgers, brats, fish sandwiches. Games, raffles, prizes.

4 -- Car Cruise. 5-9 p.m., Dandy Inn, 1030 Lincoln Highway, Fairview Heights. No outside food or beverages allowed.

6-7 -- St. Joseph Parish Picnic, parish grounds, Freeburg. Friday fish fry, 4-9 p.m. Saturday events: Mass at St. Jospeph's Church, 4 p.m.; chicken dinner, 4-7:30 p.m., carryouts available; handmade quilt bingo, 6 p.m. Brats, burgers, fries, refreshments, homemade pies and cakes. Kids activities, basket stand, country store, I Dood It game, quilt raffle.

6-7 -- Shiloh Picnic. 5 p.m. Friday; 4 p.m. Saturday, Community Park. Fireworks, 9 p.m. Friday. Carnival rides, vendors, food, bands both days.

6-7 --TrentonFest. 500 E. Park St. Town party with carnival rides and games, tractor shows, firemen's muster, bands, food.

6-7 -- Girlie Girlz Gathering. 4-8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, Belle-Clair Exposition Center, 200 South Belt East, Belleville. Admission $3. Features: Tasting is Fun, Pamper Your Body and At Your Service. Prizes every half-hour. More than 100 vendors catering to women shoppers.

6-8 -- Popeye on the River Picnic. Parade, new carnival, inflatables, car cruise, flea market, music, balloonist, caricaturist, vintage baseball game, drawing contest, wiener dog derby, pet show.

6-8 -- Homestead Harvest Days. Louis Latzer Homestead, 1464 Old Trenton Road, Highland. Demonstrations of threshing, old-time crafts, gas and steam engines, antique tractors. Kids activities and tours of the most modern house around in the early 1900s. Refreshments, old-time music. Admission $3-$8.

7 -- Our Lady Queen of Peace Festival. 4:30 p.m.-midnight, Our Lady Queen of Peace, 5923 North Belt West, Belleville. Music; chicken dinner, 4-7 p.m.; bingo; silent auction; rides; games and booths for all ages; raffles and gambling games.

11 -- Car Cruise. 5-9 p.m., Dandy Inn, 1030 Lincoln Highway, Fairview Heights. No outside food or beverages allowed. First 100 cars get free, commemorative plaque.

7 -- Music Festival. 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Lewis and Clark State Historic Site, Hartford. Musicians playing period and bluegrass music. The Harmans perform from 11 a.m. to noon. Visit Camp Dubois, the interpretive center and the Store of Discovery.

14 -- St. Augustine of Canterbury Picnic. 4 p.m.-midnight, 1910 W. Belle, Belleville. Chicken dinner starts at 2:30 p.m. Quilt bingo 7 p.m. Polka music, Freefall band, kids rides, inflatables, games.

14 -- American Indian Educational Days. Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site. Learn about Indian customs, beliefs, dress, programs, crafts and art.

14-15 -- Frontier Days. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday; 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Caseyville Park, 40 W. Reynolds, Caseyville. Re-anactor camp shows life as it was in frontier days. Skill demonstrations, including the tomahawk throw. Food and re-enactor goods available for purchase both days.

14-15 -- Apple Fest. Eckert's Orchards, Belleville, Grafton and Millstadt farms. Wagon rides, live entertainment, festival foods, children's activities, apple picking, pony rides, farm animals, childrens carnival, funnel cakes, caramel apples.

14-16 -- Okawville Fair and Wheat Festival. 5-midnight Friday, 11 a.m.-midnight Saturday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday, Okawville Park. Friday events: Carnival ride armbands or single-ride tickets, 6-11 p.m.; Queen pageant and Junior Miss contest in high school; music by Hot Rod Johnny, 8-midnight. Saturday events: washer tournament, noon; young farmers activities, 1 p.m.; Ardy the Clown, 1-5 p.m.; local talent show, antique tractor pull and large exhibit hall opens, 2 p.m.; Venedy Band, 4:30-6 p.m.; bingo, 5-10 p.m.; armbands or single ride tickets, 5-11 p.m.; Hillbilly Authority, 8-midnight. On Sunday: large float parade, 2 p.m.; Okawville High School Band concert, exhibit hall opens, 4 p.m.; armbands or single ride tickets, bingo, 4-9 p.m.; Easy Street Entertainment, 6-9 p.m. Free admission and parking.

18 -- Car Cruise. 5-9 p.m., Dandy Inn, 1030 Lincoln Highway, Fairview Heights. No outside food or beverages allowed.

20-21-- Belleville Oktoberfest and Car Show. 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, Belleville Public Square. Music by Straight 6 Band, 7-11 p.m. Friday. Saturday events: Classic car show, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; music by Rendition, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; Sh-Boom, 2-6 p.m.; Super Jam, 7-11 p.m. Food vendors.

20-21 -- Italian Fest. 11 a.m-10 p.m. Friday; 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday. Friday events: Grape stomp, 1 p.m.; music by Chris Belden, noon-3 p.m.; Tony Mirabelli, noon-4 p.m.; Al Holliday & the Rhythm Revue, 1-5; Heavenly Rhythm Dance, 4:30 p.m.; Premier Martial Arts, 5:30 p.m.; The Buried Clocks band, 6-9:30 p.m.; Hicktown, 6:30-10 p.m.; East of Eads, 6:45-10 p.m. Saturday events: Italian Fest Run, 7 a.m.; Italian Idol, 11:30 a.m.; Exit 12 band, 11:45-2:45 p.m.; The Alley Kat Band, 12:30-3:30 p.m.; McArther's Tae Kwan Do, 3 p.m.; parade, 5:30 p.m. downtown; Premier Martial Arts, 5:30 p.m.; Johnny Rock-Itt! band, 5:30-9:30 p.m.; Cold Shot, 6-10 p.m.; The UltraViolets, 6-10 p.m. Bocce ball tournament, Italian film and exhibit, Paisan Peddle Push and winemaking contest.

20-22 -- Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Fall Festival. 5-11 p.m. Friday; noon-10 p.m. Saturday; noon-6 p.m. Sunday, 405 Huntwood Road, Swansea. Games, church tour, Greek music, cash bar. Greek food, including gyro, lamb, chicken and pastries. Carryouts available.

21 -- "Paint Historic Belleville" Plein Air Auction and Street Fair. 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the historic Garfield Street Saloon and designated sites throughout the city. Visit bellevillehistoricalsociety.org.

21 -- Lincoln Place Heritage Festival. 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Lincoln Place Community Center, 822 Niedringhause Ave., Granite City. Armenian, Mexican, Macedonian and Bulgarian ethnic foods and pastries for sale. Free, continuous ethnic entertainment, featuring dancers, vocalists and music from Russia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Armeria, Mexico, Spain, Croatia, Scotland, Celtic harp, Appalachian mountain dulcimer and Italian opera. Lincoln Place historical displays, quilts, Eastern European costume displays. Children's activities. Apple pie contest. No alcohol allowed in park. Free admission.

21 -- Arts on the Bluffs Art Walk. Main Street, Columbia. Art and artist demonstrations, music, food and activities.

25 -- Car Cruise. 5-9 p.m., Dandy Inn, 1030 Lincoln Highway, Fairview Heights. No outside food or beverages allowed. Bring in any four of the five plaques given away and receive $25 in Dandy Inn gift certificates.

27 -- St. Clare Brauhaus, 7-11 p.m., St. Clare School gym, Third and Cherry streets, O'Fallon. Authentic Bavarian beer hall with German music, dancing and snacks, plus imported beer and wine at a cash bar. $10 at the door; must be 21 or older.

28 -- St. Clare Oktoberfest, 4-11 p.m. St. Clare Catholic Church, O'Fallon. Fun run/walk at 8 a.m. Fest features German dinner, carnival foods, beer and wine garden, kids games, inflatables, bingo, basket raffles, games of chance, live music.

28-29 -- Strange Folk Festival. City Park, O'Fallon.

28-29 -- Apple Fest. Eckert's Orchards, Belleville, Grafton and Millstadt farms. Wagon rides, live entertainment, festival foods, children's activities, apple picking, pony rides, farm animals, childrens carnival, funnel cakes, caramel apples.

29 -- Columbia FestiFall. Metter Park, 211 E. Cherry. Food, wine tasting, vendors, activities for kids. Music by Well Hungarians.
