April 28, 2013

— Two men are in custody after police were called to an armed robbery Sunday morning.

Employees at Smokey Bones restaurant on North Illinois Street summoned police with a hold-up alarm at 8:07 a.m. Sunday. The manager told police he was securing a side door when he was approached by a man with a handgun and forced back inside the building.

The robber removed cash from the restaurant and tied the manager to a food rack, then stole the manager's pickup truck and fled. The manager was not hurt, according to police.

Fairview Heights police located the stolen truck two miles away, abandoned in the middle of Longacre Drive. According to a release from Fairview Heights police, they have since taken two people into custody without further incident.

The names of the suspects and the manager were not released by police. Anyone with information is asked to contact Fairview Heights Police at 489-2100.
