Sparta man sentenced for taking unemployment pay while he had a job

A Sparta man was sentenced to five years of probation and was ordered to repay more than $12,800 he was convicted of illegally taking from the United States Railroad Retirement Board.

Timothy A. Restoff, 35, was convicted on a count of theft of government funds by concealing that he was employed while collecting unemployment benefits, according to U.S. Attorney Stephen R. Wigginton.

The crime took place from May 13, 2009, until March 3, 2010, according to Wigginton.
