Belleville West pounced on Alton starter Ray Bailey in the first two innings Tuesday and routed the visiting Redbirds 6-1 in a Southwestern Conference baseball game.
The Maroons (13-9 overall, 6-3 SWC) scored four runs in the first and two more in the second as they took early control and dropped Alton to 17-7 overall and 2-6 in the SWC.
Austin Bammer led a seven-hit attack for the Maroons, going 2-for-3 with a double. Parker Beine drove in two runs, Brendan Saak had an RBI and Nick Van Osdale had a double.
Ron Wisnasky drove in Alton's lone run in the fifth against winning pitcher Cory Renois. Renois lasted four-plus innings, allowing five hits, walking two and striking out one.
Bailey was tagged for six hits. He walked one and struck out one.
